PhotoWorld Asia 2012, the longest running (25 years) photography trade show and convention in the Philippines, opened Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Glorietta Ayala for the trade show and at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati for the photographers convention. On hand to assist PWAsia 2012 Chairman George Cabig formally launch the trade show at the Glorietta were world renowned photographers Jack Reznicki, Doran Wilson, Peter Frank, and Don Emmerich, guest speakers at the photographers’ convention. PhotoWorld Asia is a yearly project of the non-profit Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF).

At the trade show floor are booths of major camera gear makers and suppliers that include Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, Kodak, Samsung, SanDisk, Transcend and many others. These suppliers traditionally offer huge discounts on their products during the six-day trade show which runs until January 31. This is open to the public for free.
The other component of PhotoWorld Asia 2012 is the international photographers’ convention at the AIM in Makati. World renowned photographers are speaking at the convention. The foreign speakers are American photographers Jack Reznicki (Commercial Photography), Doran Wilson (Commercial Photography), and Don Emmerich (Digital Post Processing), and German sports photographer Peter Frank (Sports Photography). The Filipino photographers who will speak at the convention include Manny Librodo and Boboy Librodo (Eyes), Daks Bangawan (Natural Light), Luis Liwanag (Street Photography), Lester Ledesma (Editorial Photography) and Eric Cabales (Body Painting).
Capping the 6-day convention is a hands-on photo shoot with professional models in fashion photography and body painting to be held on Tuesday, January 31 at Fernbrook in Las Piñas.

At the photographers’ convention at the AIM, German photographer Peter Frank delivered an insightful lecture on sports photography. Frank has published his sports photos in many sports magazines in Germany.

Top commercial photographer John Chua makes a pitch for his advocacy photography. John is very much involved -- the prime mover -- of PWD (Photography With a Difference) advocacy group, bringing photography to the physically less advantaged. He is also spearheading a current move to help restore some damaged portions of the Banaue rice terraces.
